Increase pay for adult day center workers in Kentucky

The Issue

I have worked at an adult day center in Kentucky for over a decade, dedicating my days to individuals with disabilities, chronic illnesses, and age-related conditions. Each day is an investment in their safety, dignity, and well-being. This work isn't just a job for me—it's a commitment to the people I care for, a chance to make a genuine difference in their day-to-day lives.

Yet, for all the heart and soul we pour into our work, our wages do not reflect the true value of what we provide. Adult day center workers across Kentucky are being underpaid for performing essential and demanding tasks. Despite working 4 to 19+ years in this field, we are not making $20 per hour. Our responsibilities include hands-on care, supervision, emotional support, and addressing both medical and behavioral needs—tasks that require immense effort and dedication.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, similar caregiving roles in other states offer salaries closer to the $20/hour mark, acknowledging the demanding nature of these positions. Yet, in Kentucky, our pay remains stagnant and underwhelming. This financial undervaluation implicitly undercuts the importance of our work and the vital role we play in the lives of our clients.

Fair compensation is not just a matter of fairness; it’s about ensuring sustainability in this profession. When workers are adequately paid, retention improves, expertise grows, and the quality of care provided to those in need elevates. We need Kentucky state legislators and policymakers to address this wage disparity. Increasing our pay is not just an investment in workers—it’s an investment in the quality of life for countless Kentuckians who rely on us every day.

Please join us in calling for change. Stand with us by signing and sharing this petition to advocate for fair pay for workers in adult day centers across Kentucky. Let's ensure every caregiver receives the recognition and salary they deserve. Your support means the world to us and to those we care for every day. Sign and share now.
