Four years ago, one simple event changed our perspective on recycling; GFL Environmental, a significant recycling service, closed their operations. This move during the Covid-19 Pandemic was sudden to families invested in recycling practices, including my own.

While some may argue that recycling is a personal choice, it's imperative to understand the gravity of our waste problem. Waste mismanagement leads to soil, air, and water pollution. The Environmental Protection Agency revealed in 2018 that approximately 267.8 million tons of trash were generated in the US, out of which a mere 32.1% was recycled or composted. There is an undeniable need to increase this percentage significantly.

This petition aims to increase participation and awareness in recycling programs. It also serves as proof of the demand for more robust recycling programs.
