The Issue

Working on the roads for work can be a valuable source of support to the community, especially in remote areas. Many of these jobs, like providing care, support, advice and company, are lower paid but immensely important to countless families and individuals. Despite their significance, many of us who dedicate our vehicles to work-related travel feel undervalued by the current HMRC mileage allowance.

HMRC currently states that 45p per mile is sufficient to cover costs such as fuel, maintenance, insurance, road tax, and depreciation. Is this truly fair? For those of us living in reality, this calculation does not seem adequate. The costs of maintaining a vehicle for work often exceed this meager compensation, leaving many of us out of pocket while trying to fulfill roles that benefit society at large.

Our jobs require dedication and willingness to work under challenging conditions, often in poorly serviced or isolated areas. The mileage allowance should reflect not just the basic cost of running a vehicle but also acknowledge the critical services we offer and the financial burdens we bear.

We are asking for a reevaluation of the mileage allowance in a way that recognizes our contributions and supports those of us who choose to dedicate our livelihoods to such important work. We appeal to HMRC to consider increasing this allowance to more accurately reflect the true costs associated with these essential roles.

If you agree that those working on the roads in service to others deserve fair compensation, please sign this petition. By doing so, you're supporting better working conditions for those who are crucial to community welfare. Let's work together for change and ensure that every mile traveled in service is valued appropriately. Sign now to demand an equitable mileage allowance for all!
