The city of Lawrence, Massachusetts, while culturally diversified noticeably lacks in green spaces compared to its neighboring cities such as Andover, Methuen, and Haverhill, Massachusetts. These neighboring communities include parks, tree lined streets, and an abundance of greenery that contribute to a healthier and more aesthetically pleasing environment. However, access to green spaces isn't all about appearance, but also the health aspects which is why it's important for Lawrence to prioritize increasing its green spaces to improve both the physical and mental health of its residents.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, individuals who are actively present around parks and green spaces where individuals can connect have improved mental health statuses, reduced amounts of stress, and have increased levels of clean air production. These benefits derive from encouraging outdoor activities which reduce air pollution and provide a natural setting for interactions which green spaces provide.

Let’s come together to make Lawrence not only a greener, but a healthier and equitable place to live. No one should have to feel the long term effects resulted from unequal access to opportunities and resources such as having green spaces available, especially when the disparities and differences are witnessed between neighboring cities.
