Increase Funding for Youth Aging Out of Foster Care
Increase Funding for Youth Aging Out of Foster Care
The Issue
The plight of children aging out of foster care is a pressing concern. Every year, approximately 20,000 young Americans age out of the foster care system without being adopted or reunited with their biological families. These young adults face unique challenges, such as homelessness, unemployment, and inadequate access to education.
We urgently need to secure more funding for these individuals to ensure they have access to vital community support systems, housing assistance, and life skills classes. This is an investment into their futures, providing them with the necessary tools to become independent, contributing members of society.
Based on reports by the Annie E. Casey Foundation, 1 in 5 American youths who age out of foster care will become homeless, and about half will be unemployed by their mid-20s. This is a testament to the urgent need for funding and support.
More funding will allow for focused intervention programs, quality life skills training, and comprehensive housing programs to help these young adults transition smoothly into adulthood. It's time to advocate for these children's futures and demand our elected officials to increase funding for children aging out of foster care.
Please sign this petition to show your support and commitment to improving the lives of these children. Every signature counts in making this change a reality.
