Increase funding for Wyoming schools to support students with disabilities
The Issue
Growing up in Wyoming, I have witnessed firsthand the struggles that students with disabilities face due to inadequate funding in our educational system. My nephew, a bright young student with a physical disability, faces daily challenges in a school environment that isn't equipped to meet his needs. The lack of accessible facilities, specialized educational materials, and trained staff make it difficult for him to fully participate in and enjoy his educational experience.
Wyoming's education funding ranks among the lowest in the nation, and this leaves many schools without the resources needed to support all their students effectively. According to the National Education Association, Wyoming spends approximately $1,000 less per student compared to the national average. This gap significantly impacts the quality of education and the inclusivity that students with disabilities receive.
The Americans with Disabilities Act, enacted over 30 years ago, set the standard for equality in educational access, yet many students in Wyoming still experience barriers daily. It's time to bridge this funding gap and ensure every child, regardless of their need, has an equal chance at success.
Our solution is simple and achievable: request the Wyoming State Legislature to increase the education budget specifically earmarked for improving facilities and resources for students with disabilities. This includes accessible infrastructure updates, adaptive learning tools, and professional development for teachers to better accommodate diverse learning needs.
Beyond just statistics, this is about nurturing potential and respecting the rights of every child. An investment in these students is an investment in Wyoming’s future.
With your support, we can advocate for a more inclusive education system that provides equal opportunities for all students. Please sign this petition to urge our legislators to prioritize and increase funding for all schools in Wyoming, particularly to aid students with disabilities.
