Increase funding for Sangamon County Animal Control

The Issue

The Sangamon County Animal Control Shelter is bursting at the seams. Animals are suffering as kennel staff struggle to maintain an overcrowded facility. As animal lovers in Springfield, we recognize the importance of moving towards a No Kill Shelter—a sanctuary where every animal has the chance to find a loving home.

Without the necessary financial support, this vision remains unattainable. The current funding doesn't suffice to address the increased demands of a No Kill Shelter. When animals are spared from euthanasia, the shelter's capacity quickly reaches its limits, leaving staff and animals in stressful and challenging conditions. To transition smoothly to a No Kill Shelter, additional funds are imperative to cover the extra costs related to expanded care and support.

Targeting the Springfield city budget is a realistic and actionable solution. By increasing financial support through the city budget, we can directly channel resources into achieving a No Kill goal for our community. This can be implemented swiftly and effectively, ensuring that animals don't continue to suffer due to budget constraints.

Let's advocate for the animals in Springfield and show our commitment to a more humane approach. By signing this petition, we urge the City of Springfield to reallocate funds and provide the Sangamon County Animal Control with the financial support it needs to become a No Kill Shelter. Together, we can make a difference and save countless lives.

Please sign this petition to make Springfield a healthier, more compassionate place for animals by supporting our No Kill initiative.

I have seen the petition. It appears that it is focused on the city and not the county in terms of funding levels. In the last few years efforts have been made to improve SCAC including reduced fees for adoptions etc. I remain supportive of those types of measures. I believe Sangamon County Animal Control has worked tirelessly to give good care to their animals!! I think they have acted extremely professionally both with the public and as stewards of public funds. I agree they would benefit with addition monies! If they have additional plans, they have my full support! Thank you for contacting me! Pam Deppe
