Increase funding for General Practice so all Australians can access a GP when they need to
Have you ever experienced excessive wait times or been frustrated that you were unable to see a GP when you needed to? The Australian Government needs to increase funding to General Practice to ensure that we can all access a GP when we need to. We believe that everyone should be able to see a GP in their local area, for no or minimal out-of-pocket cost, and at the time that they need to.
General Practitioners have been the frontline of the pandemic, delivering healthcare to Australians when most other options weren’t available.
However, it’s never been harder to access a GP when you need to. Almost 1 in 5 Australians feel they wait longer than they should to see a GP.
We trust GPs to take care of us when we are unwell, to provide preventative healthcare advice, to manage chronic conditions and to keep us out of hospital.
Yet no more than 7% of the total healthcare budget is allocated to General Practice. If more funding isn’t allocated to General Practice immediately, it will be even harder to see a GP when you need to, and/or we may be asked to pay more for a GP consultation. If this happens, General Practice in Australia might never recover.
If you agree that more funding should be allocated to General Practice in Australia immediately, please sign this petition before it’s too late.
