Increase Funding For Animal Shelters To Better Serve The Community And End Kill-Shelters
The Issue
I am a resident of San Jose, CA, and like many others, I've seen the heartbreaking sight of dogs and other pets left on the streets to fend for themselves. My family recently tried to rescue a dog that was living on the street. We did our best to rehabilitate it ourselves but eventually had no choice but to turn it over to an animal shelter. The struggle we faced finding a shelter that would accept this dog was eye-opening - they simply didn't have enough space or resources.
Our city's animal shelters are overwhelmed due to lack of funding. This results in them becoming "kill-shelters" as they can't accommodate all animals brought in due to limited resources. According to data from American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Animals (ASPCA), approximately 1.5 million shelter animals are euthanized each year nationwide.
We need our local government in San Jose, CA, USA, to increase funding for these shelters so they can improve their effectiveness and stop being "kill-shelters". With more funds, these shelters could hire more staff members, expand their facilities or even open new ones - all measures that would help them accommodate more animals and provide better care.
It's time we take action for our furry friends who cannot speak up for themselves. They deserve better than life on the streets or premature death in overcrowded shelters.
Please sign this petition urging our local government officials in San Jose, CA, USA, increase funding for animal shelters so they can effectively care for all animals brought into their facilities without resorting to euthanasia out of necessity.
