Every day, animals across Florida are abandoned, injured, lost, neglected, or left in situations where they need immediate help. Behind every rescue is a real need for time, space, transportation, veterinary care, food, supplies, and people willing to respond.

Through our own experiences helping animals in need, we have seen how quickly a simple situation can become an emergency. A stray animal on the road, an injured animal, or an animal that has been abandoned can require immediate action. But rescuers and shelters cannot do this work alone.

Across Florida, animal shelters and rescue organizations are working to care for animals while facing needs such as limited shelter capacity, veterinary expenses, transportation, foster placement, and other essential resources. Florida’s current public funding process already includes requests for projects involving animal shelters, veterinary facilities, shelter expansion, spay/neuter programs, and animal rescue infrastructure. 

We believe Florida can do more to support the people and organizations that are working every day to protect animals.

We are asking Florida leaders to strengthen and expand public funding opportunities for qualified animal shelters and rescue organizations, with resources that can help support:

Veterinary care and emergency medical treatment
Shelter construction, expansion, and improvements
Transportation and animal rescue operations
Foster and temporary-care programs
Spay and neuter programs
Food, supplies, and essential animal-care resources
Rehabilitation and recovery programs
Emergency response for animals in need
This is not about one rescue, one animal, or one video.

It is about creating stronger resources for communities across Florida so that when an animal needs help, there are more people, organizations, facilities, and resources available to respond.

We are asking Florida leaders to recognize animal rescue and sheltering as an important part of our communities and to provide meaningful public funding opportunities that help qualified organizations continue this work.
