Increase Equity and Access to survivors under the Violence Against Women Act

The Issue

The Violence Against Women Act has been a vital part of protecting survivors of assault, rape, and domestic abuse against women since its enactment in 1994. However, since then this legislation has been amended over the years. It is obvious that gaps still exist in protection of survivors. Every day in the United States, over 20,000 domestic abuse calls are made to crisis hotlines.

Many in marginalized communities still fall through the cracks under the act. LGBTQ+ individuals, tribal communities, and those in a lower socioeconomic status still cannot access vital resources. Language barriers, fear of exclusion, and geographic isolation within the country continue to prevent access and justice for all.

The Violence Against Women Act should provide equitable coverage for all survivors. Congress must act to increase funding, tribal jurisdiction, and increase culturally competent services to provide equity for all. With strategic amendments that consider our ever changing societal and cultural landscape, we can aid and advocate for all victims of violence, regardless of the circumstances. Sign the petition today, and help us provide #justice4all.
