Increase disability pension in Madhya Pradesh

The Issue

I am writing this petition as someone who is personally affected by the extremely low disability pension provided in Madhya Pradesh, India. I live with Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease, a genetic nerve disorder, and I am 80% locomotor disabled due to cerebral palsy. The challenges of living with such a condition are immense and require constant financial support for medical care, daily necessities, and transportation.

In Madhya Pradesh, the disability pension is a mere ₹600, which is alarmingly low compared to other states in India where the pension amount is significantly higher. For instance, in states like Assam and Kerala, the pension is ₹1,000, while in Delhi and Maharashtra, it is as much as ₹2,500. Such disparity leaves the disabled citizens of Madhya Pradesh in a difficult position, struggling to afford basic expenses, let alone any medical or personal care they might need.

According to the 2011 Census, there are more than 15 lakh disabled people in Madhya Pradesh. This figure has only grown over the years, increasing the urgency for a policy revision. Current statistics show that only a small fraction of disabled individuals receive pensions, which are hardly sufficient to cover daily expenses. With the rising cost of living, it becomes even more challenging to manage everything within this meager amount.

Increasing the disability pension in Madhya Pradesh to match that of other states can greatly improve the quality of life for thousands of disabled people. A doubling or even tripling of the pension could ensure that disabled individuals can live with dignity and independence, have access to necessary medical care, and participate more fully in society.

The Government of Madhya Pradesh needs to address this issue immediately. I urge policymakers to increase the disability pension in Madhya Pradesh to at least ₹3,000 to 5,000 per month to align with other states and to take necessary measures to distribute this aid more effectively. By doing so, the state can extend substantial support to its disabled community, providing them a chance for a better future.

Please support this petition to urge the Government of Madhya Pradesh to increase the disability pension and ensure a better quality of life for all disabled residents. Sign this petition to make your voice heard and to help bring about this crucial change.
