Increase Canada's Funding for Students' Mental Health Services

Increase Canada's Funding for Students' Mental Health Services
The Issue
In Ontario, 91% of schools were in need of mental health services and support. What's the issue with this? Mental illness is an extreme serious issue that is heavily disregarded. Hundreds of thousands of students all around the country are receiving inadequate support towards improving their mental health. Sadly, suicide is the second leading cause of death for children and youth aged 5 to 24 in Canada. With proper mental health programs and professionals at school, students, staff and parents can be educated on mental illness and how to handle it. Especially as many causes of depleting mental health are correlated to schools, including bullying, lack of sleep, and stress over school work, schools must be responsible over the students they look after.
Disappointingly, mental health services are underfunded by about $1.5 billion in Ontario alone. The future generation is in the hands of our government's support and funding towards youth mental health services.
We are a group of high school students who have seen and personally experienced the poor mental health of students at school as well as the absence of adequate resources and assistance. We can persuade our government to recognize the significance and urgency of this problem with your support and via your signatures. Let's make a change and support the future, whether it's for you, your friends, your family, or your community.
