I am writing this petition because the issue is deeply personal to me. A dear friend of mine lived in Nigeria during its most challenging economic times. He witnessed firsthand the tremendous hardships endured by his countrymen and women due to crippling poverty. Nigeria, with a population of more than 200 million people, bears the weight of the world's highest levels of extreme poverty.

The Bureau of Statistics in Nigeria reported in 2020 that about 40% of the population lived below the poverty line. This equates to a staggering 82 million people living on less than $1 per day. The underdevelopment in the country, scarcity of well-paying jobs, and the high level of illiteracy are some of the significant contributing factors to this extreme poverty.

The change is possible, and it starts with you and me. It begins with recognising there's a problem, acknowledging the struggle, and taking steps to combat it. Therefore, I urge you to sign this petition, spread the word, and bring much-needed attention to the issue of poverty in Nigeria. Together, we can make a significant difference.
