Increase Availability of Dog Waste Disposal Facilities in Our Parks and Streets

The Issue

I am a dog owner who is dedicated to maintaining the cleanliness of our community. My commitment includes responsibly picking up after my canine friend during our walks. Unfortunately, I am sometimes left with a bag of dog waste with no place to throw it because of a lack of accessible disposal facilities. This situation often leads to the unappealing solution of transporting the waste in my car until I reach home. I am not alone in this struggle. Our parks and streets are becoming littered with discarded poop bags, an unsightly and unhealthy condition that we should not tolerate.

Our county and state can and should do more. The simple provision of more waste bags and accessible trash cans in our parks and neighborhoods can have significant effects on our environment. According to a study, a single gram of dog waste can contain 23 million fecal coliform bacteria, which are known to cause cramps, diarrhea, intestinal illness, and serious kidney disorders in humans (source: USA Today). Moreover, these bacteria, when washed away by rain, can result in contamination of our waterways.

Let's urge our local government to invest in more dog waste disposal facilities. By doing so, they aren't just making our parks and streets cleaner; they're also protecting the health and welfare of our community. Together, we can make a difference. Please sign this petition to spur action from our county and state and help keep our community clean and enjoyable for everyone.
