Increase Academic Stress Support Resources at Virginia Tech
Increase Academic Stress Support Resources at Virginia Tech
The Issue
As a student at Virginia Tech, I have personally experienced the toll that academic stress can take on one's mental and physical health. This is not an isolated experience - many of my peers share similar stories of struggle. Despite this, the issue of academic stress is often overlooked and under-discussed.
Academic stress is a prevalent issue among college students nationwide. According to the American College Health Association, around 30% of students reported that stress had negatively affected their academic performance. Yet, resources to help manage this stress are often insufficient.
At Virginia Tech, we need more comprehensive support for students dealing with academic pressure. This should include additional classes focused on time management and study skills, workshops on coping mechanisms for stress, clubs that promote relaxation and mindfulness techniques, and more readily available counseling services.
By providing these resources, we can create an environment where students feel supported in their academic journey rather than overwhelmed by it. We urge Virginia Tech to recognize the importance of this issue and take action to better support its student body.
