Maintain exclusive use of Village of Floral Park Pool

The Issue

  • The Incorporated Village of Floral Park Board of Trustees recently announced that the 2017 Pool Membership would be opened to non-residents.  Specifically, the membership would be opened to residents of the New Hyde Park Special Park District as a result of ongoing renovations of the Clinton G. Martin Pool in their neighborhood.  In addition, Village of Floral Park pool membership opportunities are also opened to "local businesses";
  • Non-residents for immediately surrounding areas are already included; adding New Hyde Park Special Park District and "local business owners" adds to the burden of space;
  • Residents pay an enormous amount of taxes for the exclusive privilege use of the pool - a pool that is still in its "infancy";
  • The exclusive rights to the pool ensure a strong level of security for our children because of our tight-knit community and having the safety net of knowing people;
  • There are a limited number of parking spaces in and around the pool complex.  These parking spots are often fully occupied on any given day with just Floral Park residents;
  • There are a limited number of chaise lounges and chairs and umbrellas at the pool.  This brings about the same issue with parking - the seating and umbrellas are often occupied AND/OR reserved before 11:00am on any given day with just Floral Park residents;
  • Allowing non-residents in to the complex does not confine them to the pool area.  They will be free to enjoy the basketball courts, the tennis courts, the playground, the baseball fields, the handball court, the seating areas in and around the entire complex;
  • Our residents knowingly and willingly move in to the Incorporated Village of Floral Park for exclusive use of facilities and for a dedicated police department, fire department and public works department.  The costly "membership" to live in the Incorporated Village of Floral Park is now meaningless - you don't have to live here and pay our taxes to enjoy the benefits of Floral Park;
  • WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, DO HEREBY CONTEST THE DECISION TO OPEN THE 2017 POOL MEMBERSHIP TO NEW HYDE PARK SPECIAL PARK DISTRICT RESIDENTS AND LOCAL BUSINESS OWNERS;  
  • WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, DO HEREBY DEMAND A RETRACTION OF THE NEW 2017 MEMBERSHIP POLICY IMMEDIATELY.
