Incorporate HESI Formatted Programs for Fair Milestone Exams at Herzing University
The Issue
As a dedicated and high-achieving student, I am deeply concerned about the current system of milestone exams that are hindering my progress in nursing education. It is with great urgency that I call upon the relevant authorities to incorporate HESI formatted programs into our studies, ensuring a fair and accurate assessment of our knowledge and skills.
Personal Story:
My name is Kiyanna Perrymond, and I am a Deans List student pursuing a career in nursing. Throughout my academic journey, I have consistently demonstrated exceptional dedication, hard work, and proficiency in my core nursing classes. However, despite passing these courses with flying colors, I find myself held back due to the benchmark score requirement of 850 on milestone exams.
It is disheartening to witness how this rigid scoring system fails to acknowledge the true potential and capabilities of students like me who excel academically but struggle under such pressure-filled examinations. The current system not only undermines our efforts but also creates an unfair disadvantage for those who may perform exceptionally well throughout their coursework but fall short on these standardized tests.
Supporting Facts:
1. Inconsistencies between classroom performance and milestone exam scores: Numerous studies have shown that there can be significant disparities between students' performance in coursework versus their performance on standardized exams (Li, 2017).
2. Unfair impact on high-achieving students: The current benchmark score requirement disproportionately affects high-achieving students who may face unnecessary setbacks despite demonstrating competence throughout their academic journey.
3. Validity concerns regarding milestone exams: Critics argue that milestone exams do not accurately assess clinical competency or readiness for professional practice (Humphrey-Murto et al., 2017).
Petition Request:
We respectfully request that the authorities responsible for designing curriculum standards consider incorporating HESI formatted programs into our studies. The HESI (Health Education Systems, Inc.) exams are specifically designed to evaluate nursing students' knowledge and clinical skills, providing a more comprehensive and accurate assessment of their readiness for professional practice.
By incorporating HESI formatted programs into our studies, we can ensure a fair evaluation process that aligns with the skills and knowledge required in the field of nursing. This approach will not only promote confidence among students but also enhance the overall quality of nursing education.
We believe that by adopting this change, we can create an educational environment that values individual achievements while ensuring a standardized assessment system that is both fair and reliable.
Together, let us advocate for a more inclusive and equitable evaluation system by incorporating HESI formatted programs into our studies. Sign this petition to support our cause and help pave the way for a brighter future in nursing education!
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Kiyanna Perrymond
