Incorporate Currie, NC To Protect Our Rural Community
Incorporate Currie, NC To Protect Our Rural Community
The Issue
We, in Currie, NC, are more than just an unincorporated area. We are an agricultural community with farmlands, homesteaders, hunting lands, and lovers of the countryside lifestyle. Our way of life, deeply rooted in nature and sustainable living, is under threat by rampant urbanization and predatory development. In recent years, our pristine forests have been cleared for the establishment of high-density, low-quality housing, or industrial and commercial building, which contradicts our values as stewards of this land.
By incorporating our area into an official municipality within Pender County, which will be known as The Village of Currie, we can better preserve our lands and heritage. We believe that this formal recognition will provide us with more power to protect our community and make decisions in our collective best interest, rather than being at the mercy of unregulated development.
Our plea is a due measure to protect our values of rural living, respect for the environment, sustainable agriculture, and community solidarity. We believe in leaving a legacy of well-preserved lands and traditions for future generations instead of unconsidered urban sprawl.
We invite everyone who cares about our rural lifestyle, the preservation of our natural resources, and the wellbeing of the Currie community to join us in this petition, and thus add strength to our proposal. Let us together advocate for the incorporation of Currie and safeguard our treasured lifestyle. Now, while North Carolina does not accept digital signatures for a petition, please sign this petition anyways to support our efforts to protect our rural community and to support the incorporation of The Village of Currie.
For those living in the area we are looking to incorporate, please come to our community meetings and let your voice be heard. At those meetings, we will be collecting physical "wet" signatures from registered voters in the incorporated area. Anyone not in the incorporated area is welcome to sign this petition to show your support.
