Every child deserves the opportunity to play, explore, make friends, and enjoy the outdoors. A truly inclusive playground would ensure that children with disabilities can participate alongside their siblings, friends, and classmates rather than being separated or limited by inaccessible equipment.

An ideal playground would incorporate a full accessibility design, including accessible routes throughout the play area, wheelchair-accessible play equipment, inclusive swings, accessible sensory and interactive features, safe surfacing, accessible seating and gathering spaces, and thoughtful designs that accommodate children with a wide range of physical, sensory, developmental, and other needs.

An accessible playground would benefit not only children with disabilities, but our entire community. It would provide a welcoming place where families can spend time together, children can develop confidence and social skills, and everyone can feel that they belong.

Accessibility should be considered from the beginning of the planning process—not added as an afterthought. We respectfully request that the Parks and Recreation Department prioritize funding, planning, and community input for a fully accessible playground.

Please help us create a playground where every child can play, every family feels welcome, and no child is left on the sidelines.
