When we began this petition, our call was simple: that every student in Sri Lanka, regardless of language, should have equal access to national-level science opportunities. We reached out to the National Science Foundation (NSF) through letters and this online petition, hoping for dialogue and action. While we did not receive a direct reply, today we see that the NSF has launched the Kid Naturalist 2025 competition with guidelines in Sinhala, Tamil, and English.
This is more than just a procedural update—it is a recognition of a fundamental right. Language inclusion is not an optional courtesy; it is a constitutional commitment, a bridge to participation, and a symbol of respect for the diversity that defines our nation.
Yes, we feel the silence of unanswered letters. But we also feel the quiet strength of change that has been achieved. Our voices—joined by 255 signatories—have been part of this shift. Every supporter who shared, signed, and stood with us has shown that even without formal acknowledgment, collective advocacy can lead to tangible results.
We close this petition with gratitude to all who believed in this cause. Let this not be the end, but a reminder: the right to learn, to compete, and to dream in one’s own language must be safeguarded across every sphere of education and opportunity in Sri Lanka.
Thank you for standing with us, and thank you for standing for fairness. Together, we have taken one more step towards a more inclusive future.
