According to the latest census data in Australia, Punjabi is the fastest growing language in Australia and one of the top 5 languages to be spoken at home. Punjabi has also emerged as the most popular Indian sub-continent language. There are nearly 30,000 Punjabi speakers in Queensland.

Year 12 students in Queensland can sit for the Punjabi external exam since 2013. It would greatly benefit the Punjabi community if Punjabi is included in Queensland's P-10 curriculum.
