Include Wushu Sanda in the 2028 Olympics
The Issue
As a proud member of Team USA Sanda, there is nothing more thrilling than the prospect of our sport stepping onto the world stage as an official Olympic sport. What many people don't realize is that Sanda is currently recognized globally by the International Olympic Committee, Sanda encompasses a dynamic mix of martial arts techniques found in various Olympic sports such as throws akin to judo, takedowns and pushouts that echo wrestling, the precision kicks of taekwondo, and the powerful punches of boxing. What makes Sanda truly special, however, are the unique mechanics that set it apart, making it not just a sport, but a captivating spectacle. Sanda specializes in these in-between areas such usings punches to setup kicks, using kicks to setup takedowns, catching kicks directly into takedowns.
The appeal of Sanda lies in its versatility and broad appeal as a middle ground between these iconic sports, and yet, it is always fresh and engaging due to its own distinctive elements. Fans of Mixed Martial Arts have long advocated for its inclusion, but Sanda represents a harmonious balance—melding diverse martial arts into one tapestry of skill, strength, and agility. Making it an Olympic sport would not only recognize the dedication and talent of its practitioners worldwide but would also enrich the Olympic martial arts rotation, providing fans of combat sports with a thrilling, new discipline to enjoy.
Sanda's inclusion in the Olympics would be a monumental opportunity for athletes like myself who have dedicated countless hours to mastering this demanding sport. Competing at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles would be a profound honor, not only showcasing our sport to a global audience but also fostering cross-cultural exchange and understanding through martial arts.
Support our cause by signing this petition, and help pave the way for Sanda's future in the Olympics. Together, we can bring this captivating sport to the forefront of the world stage. Sign now to make Sanda an official sport at the 2028 Olympics.
