Include Nights Out Events in North Salt Lake permanently
The Issue
Over the past few years, I've witnessed the debates within the North Salt Lake City Council regarding the continuation of our cherished Nights Out events. Each year, community members eagerly anticipate these gatherings, which celebrate diversity, inclusion, and the vibrant cultural tapestry that defines our city. However, the council has repeatedly discussed the idea of 'rotating events,' which could potentially mean that essential celebrations, such as Pride and Juneteenth, might not be held annually.
These events, led by citizens, are more than just dates on the calendar; they are vital expressions of our community's spirit and solidarity. Pride, Juneteenth, Latino Night, and many others provide a platform for celebration, education, and unity within North Salt Lake. They allow us to come together, learn from one another, and celebrate the rich diversity that makes our city truly unique.
Unfortunately, not every council member shares this vision, and some continue to seek ways to discourage or even discontinue these foundational events. These events should be preserved every year, highlighting and respecting the diverse backgrounds of our residents.
Pride events remind us of the struggle for equality and the progress we've made, while Juneteenth celebrates freedom and resilience in the African American community. Latino Night offers a vibrant showcase of Hispanic culture's contributions to our society. Permanently adopting these Nights Out into our city’s annual calendar would affirm our commitment to a diverse community.
By establishing these Nights Out events as permanent fixtures each year, we would send a clear message: North Salt Lake is a city that values and embraces all its citizens, regardless of their background or identity.
I urge you to join me in petitioning the North Salt Lake City Council to make these Nights Out events a permanent part of our yearly lineup. Show your support for a more inclusive and unified community. Please sign this petition to help ensure that our community is known for its commitment to diversity and inclusion. Thank you for your support.
