However, if we are to truly address this threat, it is crucial to extend similar restrictions to the use of fireworks. The cultural significance of fireworks in Asian weddings and celebratory occasions like A-level results is understood, yet the persistent risk to public safety and the heartbreaking consequences faced by those who lose their homes demand immediate action.

According to the National Fire Chiefs Council, there were approximately 1,285 fires caused by fireworks in recent years, underscoring the urgent need for regulatory intervention. Moreover, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents highlights the increase in firework-related incidents, exacerbating the strain on emergency services already stretched thin in their efforts to control wildfires and protect lives.

We propose that the government swiftly enacts legislation to include fireworks in the ban currently placed on disposable BBQs.
