Include Cheerleading in the Olympic Games

The Issue

As a cheerleader myself, I have firsthand experience of the rigor and athleticism required by this demanding sport. Each cheerleading session involves strenuous routines, requiring strength, stamina, flexibility, and coordination similar to Olympic gymnastics or skiing. Therefore, we question the decision to exclude cheerleading from the Olympic Games when team sports like gymnastics or skiing are featured.

We admire the diversity of sports in the Olympics and appreciate that it includes breakdancing, a modern dance form. However, we believe that cheerleading, with its deep tradition and large following, truly deserves similar recognition.

An estimated 3.82 million people participate in cheerleading in the U.S. alone (According to the Women's Sports Foundation). The sport's demanding nature aligns it with other Olympic events, demonstrating a high level of athletic achievement and teamwork.

This petition asks for recognition of cheerleading as a sport worthy of inclusion in the Olympic Games. Specifically, we ask the International Olympic Committee to consider our plea. We believe that featuring cheerleading would not only respect the hard work and talent of cheerleaders but also encourage more diversity of sports, promoting a broader display of athleticism and competition at the world stage.

Join us in our fight for recognition. Let cheerleading leap, flip, and shout its way into the Olympics. Sign this petition today!
