Include Africa in k-pop and pop world tours
The Issue
I've been following K-pop and pop music for years, and it's incredibly frustrating to see world tours announced that never seem to include Africa. It's as if our continent is invisible, not worthy of being part of the 'world' in 'world tour'. This lack of inclusion in these tours is a constant reminder that African fans are being ignored, despite our passionate and increasing support for these genres.
Every time a new world tour is announced, millions of fans across Africa are filled with disappointment because we don't even get the opportunity to attend live performances of the artists we adore. This is despite the fact that there is a massive, enthusiastic fanbase here, craving for a chance to experience the thrill of a live concert.
There is a rich cultural diversity in Africa, and music is a vital part of our lives, connecting us across borders and cultures. The African music market is growing rapidly, and according to the IFPI Global Music Report 2022, the music revenues in Africa and the Middle East rose by more than 35% in 2021, the highest of any region.
Holding concerts here would not only acknowledge and appreciate the support from African fans but also open doors for these artists to connect with a new and diverse audience. Let's push for a real world tour, one that is truly global by including stops in major African cities such as Lagos, Johannesburg, Nairobi, and Cairo.
By signing this petition, you can help amplify the voices of African music fans and send a strong message to music executives and artists alike: Africa should not be ignored. We matter. We want the chance to see our favorite artists perform live without having to travel outside of our continent. Join me by signing this petition to call for a change. Together, we can make the music world more inclusive and genuinely global.
