The Issue

My boys grew up skateboarding and we always had to make the drive to a neighboring private business or another city's park. This results in drive times over 30 minutes, especially on the weekends. My youngest son is also really into skateboarding and having a park close by within walking distance allows him to work on his talent without limitations.

The development of the Big Cedar Wilderness Park presents a unique opportunity to bring this much-needed amenity to our community. A skatepark would serve as a vibrant hub for local youth, providing them a safe space to engage in a healthy, active lifestyle. By incorporating a skatepark into the Big Cedar Wilderness Park, we can support the development of physical skills, promote mental well-being, and foster positive social interactions among the youth.

Skateboarding is growing in popularity and has even become an Olympic sport, illustrating the demand for accessible practice spaces. According to a 2020 report by the Tony Hawk Foundation, the United States alone has over 6.5 million active skateboarders, yet many communities lack adequate facilities.

Incorporating a skatepark would also enhance the appeal of the Big Cedar Wilderness Park, attracting visitors not only for skateboarding but also for the park’s other features. This could increase local tourism and stimulate the economy by drawing skateboarding events, competitions, and enthusiasts to the area.

Let us make a strategic investment in our community’s infrastructure and recreation. Please support this proposal by signing the petition to ensure a skatepark is included in Big Cedar Wilderness Park. Your signature can help pave the way for future generations of skateboarders, right here in our own community. Together, we can create a space that encourages healthy living and community bonding.
