Include a community skatepark in the Hawley Recreation Site
The Issue
I have lived in Creedmoor, NC for many years, and I have seen firsthand how our community lacks a dedicated space for skateboarding and action sports. As a passionate advocate for active community spaces, I strongly feel that Creedmoor and Granville County would benefit immensely from having a skatepark at the Hawley Recreation Site. The addition of a skatepark would not only provide a safe and accessible environment for skateboarders of all ages and skill levels but also foster a sense of community among residents.
Currently, skateboarders or any riders of scooters, bikes in our area have no sanctioned space to practice their sport, leading them to skate in areas not designed for such activities, which can be dangerous and against city regulations. By integrating a skatepark into the Hawley Recreation Site, we can offer these skaters a proper facility equipped with the necessary features and safety measures. This will also help to alleviate any conflicts arising from the use of unsuitable locations, making the whole community safer.
A skatepark would serve as a positive hub for youth engagement, offering a constructive outlet for energy and creativity. It would encourage healthy physical activity at a time when physical and mental health are more crucial than ever. Parks similar to what we envision for Hawley Recreation Site have proven successful across the country, increasing property value, supporting local businesses, and reducing local crime rates by providing positive community engagement options.
I kindly urge the Hawley Rec Site Stakeholders and the relevant Granville County authorities to consider this proposal. By investing in our youth and their active lifestyle, we’re investing in the future of our community.
