The Issue
Daniel Franzese released a video on his instagram @whatsupdanny explaining how he was contacted by Walsh University to host Walsh’s “Mr. Walsh” competition for this 2021 school year. Upon the Vatican press release stating that Catholic blessings cannot be given to same-sex civil unions, Daniel, a self-identified member of the LGBTQ+ community, received an e-mail correspondence of the University rescinding their approval of Daniel’s contract to host the Mr. Walsh competition.
This petition serves to denounce the University’s retraction of approval of Daniel’s contract and to stand with Daniel against this clearly discriminatory practice. Decisions like these by upper administration have extreme social implications that harm the security of LGBTQ+ students and the LGBTQ+ community at large. Not only do we stand with Daniel, but we DENOUNCE the University’s decision.
There have been multiple attempts to establish an LGBTQ+ club on campus which has been met with University disapproval. LGBTQ+ students, who pay their tuition just like cis-gendered, heterosexual students, are not supported and protected by administration just like cis-gendered, heterosexual students.
Stand with Daniel. Stand against LGBTQ+ hate. Stand together as allies and members of a more equitable society.
