The property at 1101 Miami Street, Toledo, has become an unfortunate symbol of loss for the Toledo community. It's where the body of [Redacted] was discovered, a tragedy that shocked us all. Over the past weeks, this blighted property has transformed into a makeshift memorial for [Redacted], adorned with balloons, flowers, stuffed animals, and tokens of remembrance. This gesture encapsulates the unity and shared grief of the community. We, therefore, petition the city of Toledo and/or Lucas county to take over the ownership of this property with a view to transform it into a public park - a permanent tribute to [Redacted] life. Aside from honoring [Redacted], parks have been proven to improve neighborhood safety and inspire community engagement (according to data from the National Recreation and Park Association). A community park on 1101 Miami Street would also contribute to tackling urban decay, hence aligning with Toledo’s community development goals. Transforming this space of tragedy into a space of beauty will celebrate the memory of [Redacted], and it would provide a space of healing and community growth.
