In June 2025, Mikayla Raines, the founder of Save A Fox canid rescue, died by suicide.  She was bullied relentlessly online and she felt she had no one to talk to who understood her autism. I am autistic and have experienced suicidal ideation in the past, with little support.  Currently, there is no autism specific crisis line anywhere. People on the autism spectrum are at a higher risk of suicide and suicide attempts than the general population. The numbers of suicides and attempts are likely higher than reported, as many cases are possibly misrepresented as missing person cases, elopement, or "accidental" deaths. Mental health challenges often present differently in autistic people than in the non autistic population. Simply training a generalized crisis line like 988 would help, but unless the call operators are neurodivergent themselves, they will not have a full understanding of the unique experiences and trauma faced by autistic people and other neurodivergent people.  This crisis line would ideally have LGBTQ autistic people as operators, since autistic people are more likely to be LGBTQ.  Communication needs are often different too, so a crisis line would need to provide several different communication options such as videoconferencing, texting, online chat, phone line (both cell phone and landline), and any other communication methods you can think of.  

I understand these are trying times. Fundraising will have to be done. But a crisis can also bring the best out of people. Please work together to create a crowdfunding campaign to make this a reality.
