OUR GOAL:
Increase Old Age + Disability Grants to R6,500/month by 1 January 2027.
Align dignity with the National Minimum Wage.
THE CRISIS:
Right now, the Pensioner who raised you is surviving on R2,400/month.
That’s less than HALF of the National Minimum Wage of R5,199.
They have to choose between: accommodation, food or electricity, medicine or transport.
This is not dignity. This is survival.
If we do not fix this now, we are telling the generation that built this country that their lives have no value after age 60.
OUR 6-POINT PLAN FOR DIGNITY:
1. R6,500 Monthly Grant for Old Age + Disability
2. R1,000 SRD made permanent for the unemployed
3. R500 Food Cash instead of expensive food parcels
4. Healthcare Guarantee + pharmacy vouchers if clinics are out of stock for 48hrs
5. Utility Protection: R150 electricity + 10,000L water monthly. Make it ILLEGAL to disconnect pensioners
6. R5,000 Funeral Benefit so families don’t fall into permanent debt
SASSA must also provide mobile units and home outreach for the frail.
HOW WE FUND IT:
It is not unaffordable. It is a choice.
We demand Treasury fund this through: cutting corruption, taxing extreme wealth, reducing political perks, and reprioritizing wasteful spending.
A nation that can bail out State Owned Enterprises can afford to feed its elders.
THE PATH TO PARLIAMENT:
By signing, you mandate #ImStaying to submit this as a formal parliamentary petition to the President, Minister of Social Development, Speaker of the National Assembly, and Chairperson of the NCOP in terms of Sections 17 and 69 of the Constitution.
