Every day, students at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute have to cross busy roads and side streets on campus. Many vehicles do not abide by speed limits, and do not yield for pedestrians at crosswalks. For the safety of students, action should be taken to install "Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons" (New York State Pedestrian Safety), which are pedestrian warning signs that blink to alert vehicles. Additionally, the Institution should consider hiring crossing guards. Two accidents in the span of two months have occurred on Burdett Avenue, in front of freshman housing. Action needs to be taken to protect the safety and lives of students.
