"Séchere Schoulwee" (Safer School Commutes) Campaign - Improved Road Safety for Young Children crossing Avenue Joseph Sax in the vicinity of ISML Primary School gates.

The Zebra Crossing on Avenue Joseph Sax, beside the main gates of ISML Primary School, is dangerous during peak school hours. Between approximately 07:40-08:10 and after school, Monday to Friday, hundreds of young children cross while traffic volumes increase significantly.

Over the years, there have been repeated reports of near-misses involving children and vehicles. Within the first weeks of the new school year, Police and Agents Municipaux also observed and raised similar concerns with parents during their two-week traffic controls at this location, including a child nearly struck-over at the Zebra Crossing, cars not stopping for pedestrians, cars obstructing line-of-sight of the crossing making it hazardous for children, drivers caught driving the wrong way up the one-way street.

Simply put, the location is an accident waiting to happen. Let's take action before something more serious occurs, for the safety of the young children and other road users.

As part of the Ville de Luxembourg's "Séchere Schoulwee" (Safer School Commutes) campaign, and on behalf of children, families and the wider community, we are calling for permanent safety improvements.

Unlike many crossings near primary schools, the Zebra crossing beside ISML Primary School currently has:

• No pedestrian traffic lights;

• No regular presence of Agents Municipaux during peak times;

• Insufficient lighting, making the crossing harder to see, especially during darker hours and seasons;

• No prominent signage warning drivers that they are approaching a primary school.

We believe these conditions create a preventable risk to children and other road users. We therefore urge the authorities to consider:

• Installing pedestrian traffic lights;

• Improving lighting at the crossing;

• Adding prominent school-zone and warning signage;

• Providing Agents Municipaux during peak crossing times.

By signing this petition, you are expressing your concern and support for these measures. The petition will be presented to the authorities to request discussion and action.

Thank you for your support.
