Improve traffic signage in Commuter Zone 1 across Friday hall at UNCW

The Issue

Every day, I park in Commuter Zone 1 at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, directly across from Friday Hall on Randall Drive. Today I was almost hit by someone ignoring the arrows painted on the pavement to get a parking spot quicker and also cutting two other vehicles off. Unfortunately, this is a weekly occurrence I am asking UNCW to put proper signage up to prevent future accidents.

This parking area needs more than faded arrows on the road; it requires designated signage to ensure it's understood by every driver that this is a one-way zone. A simple addition of signs could drastically reduce confusion and enhance safety for everyone using this parking facility.

Commuter Zone 1 is heavily used by students, faculty, and staff every day. According to a report by the American Traffic Safety Services Association, proper signage can reduce accidents by over 20%. This means that simply adding clear, prominent signs could prevent numerous traffic mishaps and ensure a smoother flow of vehicles in this busy area.

By implementing adequate signage, UNCW can protect its community and demonstrate a committed effort to road safety. We owe it to everyone who uses these facilities to make their daily commutes as safe as possible.

I urge the University of North Carolina at Wilmington to take action and install the necessary signage in Commuter Zone 1 immediately. Please sign this petition to show your support and make UNCW a safer place for everyone. Together, we can drive change and ensure that our campus is a safe and welcoming environment for all.

I have shared the video with the Chancellor, UNCW police, and UNCW parking and will update on that status when able.
