Improve traffic safety at New Century International Elementary

The Issue

The recent reconfiguration of I-295 has drastically impacted our daily commute to New Century International Elementary School. Previously having an alternative exit to New Century Circle, the route now funnels all school traffic into a single, perilous turn-out. As a concerned parent and community member, I feel compelled to raise awareness and demand change before an inevitable accident occurs.

The confluence of heavy congestion and unsafe visibility at this turn-out has become a genuine safety hazard for everyone—students, parents, teachers, and local commuters alike. With hundreds of vehicles trying to navigate through this bottleneck every morning and afternoon, the risk of a serious accident increases daily.

In order to mitigate this risk and ensure the safety of our children and the school community, we urgently need the city to consider alternative safety measures such as installing a stop sign, traffic light, or assigning a crossing guard at this critical juncture. Studies have shown that proper traffic control devices can significantly reduce accidents and improve overall safety. According to the Federal Highway Administration, intersection accidents can be reduced by up to 20% with the right traffic intervention.

We believe that investing resources into curing this traffic peril is not only a necessity but a duty. Every student deserves a safe route to education, and every parent deserves peace of mind as they drop off their children. Let's not wait for a tragedy to spur action. Join us in urging the city officials to prioritize the installation of these safety measures. Sign this petition to protect our children's future and prevent unnecessary hazards in our community.
