As a parent of children attending public schools in Toledo, OH, I am deeply concerned about the quality of lunches being served to our kids. My children refuse to eat their school lunches and after seeing what is being served, I can't blame them. It's disheartening to realize that even jail systems seem to be providing better meals than our educational institutions.

In a country as developed as ours, it's unacceptable that we're failing to provide nutritious and appetizing meals for our young learners. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), students who eat full, healthy meals have better grades, attendance, cognitive function compared those who don't.

We urge the local government and school district officials in Toledo to allocate more funding towards improving the quality of school lunches. This includes sourcing fresh ingredients locally where possible and hiring skilled staff capable of preparing balanced meals that kids will enjoy eating.
