As a student at the College of Charleston (CofC), I have witnessed firsthand the significant disparity between the high costs we shoulder for our education and the quality of service provided at our on-campus dining locations. Our dining facilities should be a place where students feel welcomed, respected, and satisfied with both the food and the interactions with staff. Unfortunately, this is not always the case.

Many of us have experienced instances where the attitude of the dining staff has been less than positive. For the prices we pay in tuition and on meal plans, we deserve a dining experience that is uplifting and respectful. No student should have to feel uncomfortable or underappreciated while trying to enjoy a meal in what should be a supportive campus environment.

Furthermore, the quality and variety of food options offered do not always reflect the premium prices. Students have reported limited selections that often do not meet dietary needs or preferences. **A lack of fresh, nutritious options can negatively impact our health and our academic performance.**

Students from colleges across the nation have shared their success stories about improving campus dining experiences. For example, by implementing regular feedback systems and increasing communication between dining services and students, schools have managed to significantly enhance both food quality and service standards.

**We urge the administration of the College of Charleston to take the following actions:**

1. **Implement regular customer service training for dining staff members** to encourage a positive and respectful attitude.
2. **Conduct comprehensive surveys among students and faculty** to gather detailed feedback on dining experiences and preferences.
3. **Enhance the quality and variety of food options** to ensure all dietary needs are met, sourcing fresh and healthy ingredients whenever possible.
4. **Establish a dedicated student liaison or committee** to facilitate ongoing communication between the student body and dining services.
