Walking my children to school every morning should be a joyful experience, filled with conversation and anticipation for the day ahead. Unfortunately, in Newham, our walks are tainted by the sight of discarded household items, animal waste, and leftover party debris scattered on our streets. The cleanliness of our community has reached a critical low, impacting not just the aesthetic appeal of our neighborhoods, but also the health and safety of our residents.

In recent months, Newham has been facing a significant problem with fly-tipping, and it's not just an isolated incident; it's happening almost daily. According to a report from Keep Britain Tidy, such environmental infractions are not only visually unappealing but also pose severe public health risks, encouraging vermin and contributing to the spread of diseases. Furthermore, the Newham Council spends tens of thousands of taxpayer pounds annually on dealing with illegal dumping, funds that could be redirected to services benefiting our community, such as schools and parks.

Tackling this issue requires a comprehensive and proactive approach. We urge the Newham Council to implement stricter penalties for those caught dumping waste illegally. An increase in surveillance in problem areas and community awareness programs could deter potential offenders and educate the populace on proper waste disposal. Additionally, increasing the frequency of street cleaning and providing more waste disposal units could significantly reduce the likelihood of streets becoming dumping grounds.

Let's work together to restore the beauty and safety of Newham. Our streets are the veins of our community, and they should reflect the pride we have in our home. By signing this petition, you are supporting a cleaner, healthier, and more welcoming environment for everyone in Newham.

Please sign this petition and help us bring about a positive change in our beloved borough. Together, we can ensure that our streets are a source of pride, not frustration. We owe it to ourselves and future generations to create a Newham that we can all be proud to call home.
