As a staff member at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton, I have personally experienced the challenges associated with our current parking situation at the KEC Parkade. Since April 15, 2024, we have been enforced to park on the 6th, 7th and even on the 8th floor - an uncovered rooftop without plug-ins. This has not only increased our commute time but also results in roughly an additional 32 hours spent driving annually in this parkade alone. It affects time management, causes wear and tear on our vehicles and increases gas consumption and they raise the parking cost yearly.  Also, if caught parking on any lower levels than 6, you will be fined. 

I've documented photos and videos daily and it demonstrates how empty the lower floors are (3rd (partial), 4th and 5th) while the staff is directed upwards.   We believe that staff should be given the same courtesy in covered lower level parking areas. 

This issue is not just about convenience; it's about respect for hospital staff who contribute significantly towards healthcare services in Edmonton. The current policy does not consider their needs or contributions adequately.

We call upon U of A Hospital parking management to reevaluate this policy urgently. We need a system that ensures fairer distribution of parking spaces among all employees and visitors while considering their needs and contributions towards healthcare services.
