A concern of significant urgency is how domestic violence victims are dealt with by social services. We request a much-needed reform in this regard as the present state of affairs is distressing. Over 80% of domestic violence victims do not feel the sense of support they desperately need when they approach or referrals are doing police HV etc to social services. Fear is a common accompanying emotion, mainly driven by the notion that these services would snatch their children away as the first intervention measure. The lack of trust and fear of the consequences permeates the victims to such an extent that it deters them from seeking professional help. This grim reality calls for immediate change to ensure victims are treated sensitively, and their well-being is prioritized. These services should act as a support system, not instigate further distress or anxiety. We call upon relevant authorities to revamp their approach, to improve the training of staff dealing with victims of domestic abuse, and to establish clear guidelines and mechanisms that protect the victims and their children without making them feel threatened or unsupported.
