Improve snow removal services in Harrisburg

Improve snow removal services in Harrisburg
The Issue
Every winter, the City of Harrisburg faces the challenge of snow removal. Unfortunately, the current efforts have been insufficient, leaving streets hazardous for far too long after snow has ended. This issue isn't just a mild inconvenience—it's a pressing safety concern impacting everyone from working professionals to students, and compromising overall public safety.
Personally, I have experienced how treacherous these streets become during the snowy months. Getting to work on time, ensuring children can safely attend school, and accessing emergency services have become overwhelmingly difficult for so many, particularly as we enter 2026. Streets remain icy and slippery days after snow has stopped, creating an unnecessarily dangerous environment for drivers, pedestrians, and cyclists alike.
Residents in Harrisburg deserve a more effective and prompt response to snowfalls. Many other cities across the United States manage to clear their roads within a reasonable timeframe, and there's no reason why Harrisburg cannot do the same. We need to advocate for a more proactive and efficient plan implemented by the city authorities that includes:
1. Increasing the number of plows and personnel dedicated to the task.
2. Prioritizing main roads and routes essential for emergency services.
3. Expanding coverage to residential streets sooner.
4. Investing in more advanced snow removal technologies and strategies that other cities have adopted with success.
We must also hold the city accountable, ensuring that they adhere to a strict timetable for snow removal to protect our community. Proper and timely snow removal will not only enhance public safety but also reduce disruptions to daily activities and ultimately save lives.
You're not alone in your frustration with the current situation. By coming together and voicing our concerns, we can push for change. Your support on this petition can spur Harrisburg's leadership (especially our Mayor) into action. Sign this petition and help create a safer community during our snowy winters.
