I am writing this with a heavy heart as a patriot and a leader in Kampala, witnessing the increasing incidents of crime that go unnoticed and unanswered by our security forces. Recently, in an incident at Arena Mall, a group of boda boda riders robbed a gentleman who had just withdrawn money from the bank. Such brazen acts of crime in broad daylight, where perpetrators walk away without any fear of apprehension, raise serious concerns about the state of security in our city.

Our police forces are often delayed in responding to urgent issues, making it imperative for us to establish a more reliable security framework. This delay in police action has become a recurring problem, leaving citizens vulnerable and criminals emboldened.

I advise implementing high-level security measures in overcrowded places by using advanced technology such as surveillance cameras that can identify hidden areas and monitor activities in real-time. This needs to be complemented by private security services and guards who are trained and empowered to act swiftly in the absence of immediate police intervention.

Additionally, we need to register and regulate all boda boda riders and street vendors under platforms like SafeBoda, Faras, and Bolt. This would ensure that only registered and law-abiding individuals operate within the city, making it easier to identify and track down culprits when such incidents occur.

It is critical that our urban planning and safety strategies reflect the growing demand for security in areas known for high criminal activity, particularly in Kampala's slums and crowded streets. We cannot continue to let innocent citizens fall prey to criminals or allow false alarms to harm the reputation and safety of our community.

As a united society, we must demand better, safer, and more responsive security measures. Let's urge the authorities to deploy police forces proactively in suspicious areas and support our security personnel with the tools they need to protect and serve us effectively.
