Improve safety within our community Society Hill 3
The Issue
I love my community and regularly walk around it, enjoying the serene environment it offers. However, the safety conditions have become a growing concern for me and many others. Recently, a beloved neighborhood dog was tragically run over due to inadequate crosswalks and stop signs in our area. This heartbreaking incident is a wake-up call for us all. Just shortly after, a major car accident took place, further highlighting the urgent need for improved safety measures.
Currently, our community lacks sufficient crosswalks and stop signs, making it hazardous for pedestrians, pets, and even drivers. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, pedestrian fatalities represent 17% of all traffic deaths. This statistic underscores the potential risk we face every day living without essential traffic controls.
Installing additional crosswalks and stop signs is a practical and necessary step to ensure everyone can navigate our streets safely. These measures will not only safeguard pedestrians and animals but also reduce traffic congestion and prevent accidents.
I urge our local government, specifically the Department of Transportation, to take immediate action. By prioritizing our community’s safety, they can foster an environment where residents can walk, bike, and drive with peace of mind.
Please join me in calling for these vital changes. Sign this petition today to demand safer streets and protect the well-being of everyone in our beloved community.
