Improve safety on Excalibur Drive, Cardiff
The Issue
We are calling on Cardiff Council to urgently improve pedestrian and road safety along Excalibur Drive in Thornhill, particularly the section between Oakridge and Cheriton Drive.
This stretch of road is used regularly by children walking to school, residents and pedestrians travelling towards the train station, yet there are currently inadequate measures to help pedestrians cross safely and to control vehicle speeds.
Residents have previously raised concerns about speeding, reckless driving and the lack of suitable pedestrian crossing facilities. These concerns have now been brought into sharp focus following a serious incident in which a schoolboy was struck by a vehicle on Excalibur Drive.
We believe action is needed before a serious or fatal accident occurs.
We are asking Cardiff Council to urgently assess and introduce appropriate safety measures, including:
Clearly marked pedestrian crossing points
Speed bumps or other traffic-calming measures
Speed cameras or appropriate speed enforcement measures
Improved signage and road markings
A full road safety assessment of this section of Excalibur Drive
We understand that any permanent changes need to be properly assessed and consulted on. However, repeated concerns from residents, combined with a recent collision involving a child, demonstrate that this issue needs urgent attention rather than further delay.
Children and residents should be able to walk through their own community without having to worry about being struck by a vehicle.
Please sign this petition to show Cardiff Council that action is needed now to make Excalibur Drive safer.
