I am a frequent user of the TTC public transportation along with many others in my community. Every day, we rely on this system to get us where we need to go. However, we also wish that our transit trips could be safer.

According to the Toronto Transit Commission’s own annual safety reports, in 2019 there were 5,682 reported safety incidents (Source: TTC Annual Safety Reports). These figures are alarmingly high considering the vital role that TTC plays for the residents of Toronto, where on an average day, the TTC accommodates nearly 1.7 million people, making it one of the busiest transit systems in North America (Source: TTC's Customer Counts report 2019).

These statistics highlight the need for better safety measures on the TTC. We believe TTC is equipped and capable of taking proactive steps to enhance the safety of all its passengers. Strict adherence to safety protocols, better training of staff, regular preventive inspections and maintenance are just a few measures that could be the difference in preventing future incidents.

We, the passengers just want the assurance that our journeys to work, school, home, or anywhere else in our beloved city is safe. We urge the city authorities and the TTC to take note of our concerns and take immediate action to ensure better safety standards across the TTC network.
