The Issue

As someone deeply concerned about student safety and well-being, I am compelled to address an urgent issue affecting Point Higgins Elementary. Despite the school's commitment to providing a nurturing educational environment, there are existing and known hazards that put our children at unnecessary risk.

Point Higgins Elementary, located in Ketchikan, Alaska, has been a cornerstone of our community, fostering learning and growth for countless students. However, the recent diesel spill has highlighted significant safety concerns. These are not only potential risks but present and real dangers that must be addressed immediately.

Current safety measures are insufficient to protect our students. State and government officials are failing to act in the best interest of our students. The air quality in the school has deteriorated since the school reopened. The most recent qualitative analysis shows exceedances in all classrooms despite ongoing mitigation efforts.

Your voice matters in ensuring that all students at Point Higgins have a safe and secure place to learn and grow. By signing this petition, you are advocating for the protection of our children and the enhancement of their educational experience. Let's come together as a community to urge the school board and local and state authorities to implement these necessary changes immediately. Please sign and share this petition to make Point Higgins Elementary safe for our children.
