The Issue

We, the undersigned residents, commuters, and concerned citizens, respectfully request that local officials and transportation authorities conduct an immediate safety review of the intersection of Hutcherson Lane (KY 2802) and Patriot Parkway and implement appropriate measures to reduce the risk of serious traffic accidents.

This intersection presents significant safety concerns for motorists traveling on Hutcherson Lane. Drivers are required to cross multiple lanes of traffic and merge into additional lanes while navigating traffic on Patriot Parkway, where through traffic is not required to stop. The current configuration relies soley on stop signs for vehicles entering from Hutcherson Lane, creating conditions that can make safe crossing and turning movements difficult, particularly during periods of heavy traffic.

The need for improvements at this location is underscored by multiple serious accidents that have occurred at the intersection. These incidents have resulted in significant injuries and have had a profound impact on affected families and members of the community. While we are grateful that lives have been spared in these cases, the potential for future accidents resulting in severe injury or loss of life remains a serious concern.

Available accident data and community observations indicate that this intersection experiences a higher frequency of collisions than many comparable intersections in the area. The combination of traffic volume, vehicle speeds, and limited traffic control measures warrants a thorough evaluation by transportation and safety professionals.

To improve safety and reduce the likelihood of future accidents, we respectfully request that transportation authorities consider one or more of the following measures:

  • Installation of a traffic signal to provide controlled traffic movements.
  • Construction of a roundabout to improve traffic flow and reduce conflict points.
  • Modification of turning movements, including consideration of directional or one-way traffic controls where appropriate.
  • Review and adjustment of posted speed limits in the vicinity of the intersection.
  • Any additional engineering and safety improvements recommended through a formal traffic study.

These solutions represent practical and proven approaches to enhancing roadway safety. Investing in preventative infrastructure improvements can help reduce accidents, protect motorists, and improve traffic operations for all who travel through this area.

We respectfully urge local government officials, transportation planners, and the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to prioritize a comprehensive review of this intersection and take appropriate action to address these longstanding safety concerns.

By signing this petition, we express our support for prompt evaluation and implementation of measures that will improve safety at the intersection of Hutcherson Lane and Patriot Parkway and help protect the residents and visitors who rely on this roadway each day.

Thank you for your attention to this important public safety matter.

Please, join me in signing this petition to demand the attention and commitment of our local government to implement these crucial changes. Together, we can protect our community and ensure the safety of everyone who travels through this dangerous intersection. Sign and make your voice heard.
