The Issue

Crossing the intersection at Christian Academy Blvd and Sherrill Blvd is very dangerous. There have been numerous accidents due to the speed of cars traveling along Sherrill Blvd. The blind humps and trees contribute to obstructed views of traffic and make crossing this intersection unnecessarily dangerous. There will be additional traffic flow with the newly constructed medical facility located on Sherrill Blvd.  The intersection affects traffic for Christian Academy of Knoxville, with over 1100 students. Parents would like to push for safety at this intersection.

When navigating the intersection, visibility is significantly compromised by the blind humps in the road and the densely planted trees. The lack of a traffic light or a four-way stop jeopardizes the safety of drivers, particularly the families and students of Christian Academy of Knoxville. It is imperative that appropriate measures are taken to enhance safety at this high-risk location.

A traffic light or a four-way stop can dramatically increase safety at this crossing. Such improvements can regulate the flow of traffic more effectively, especially during peak times when the students are arriving or leaving school. It can also reduce the likelihood of accidents by managing the speed of vehicles more consistently and providing a clear indication for when it is safe to cross.

In the past years, similar intersection improvements have proven to significantly decrease accidents and enhance safety. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, installing a traffic signal can reduce total crashes by up to 29%. Furthermore, four-way stops have been found to reduce the number of crashes that result in injuries by approximately 38%. Implementing such changes can provide much-needed peace of mind for the concerned parents, school faculty, and the broader community who frequent this area.

By signing this petition, you are not only advocating for the safety of current students, parents, and faculty but also paving the way for future generations who will travel through this intersection. Please support us in urging local authorities to recognize the urgent need for a traffic light or a four-way stop at the intersection of Christian Academy Blvd and Sherrill Blvd. Together, we can make a difference and protect our community. Sign this petition to demand immediate action for safer roads.
